AI Non-use Pledge
One area where AI is a game changer is in speech-to-text (STT) transcription. The ability to make subtitles quickly and with accurate time codes is a huge step forward for accessibility, and it actually reduces energy demands because a computer can efficiently record and format time codes. Human eyes proofread the output too, of course.
Proponents of AI mischaracterize its abilities and functioning. It only remixes existing novels, letters, art, movies, and music. AI does not create, and it does not credit the authors of the works that it recycles. As such, it has a voracious appetite for content, without the knowledge or permission of creators.
Using AI in contact forms or customer help opens the door for an AI company to use your words in training. Because AI is not universally understood, to use such chat-bots would violate the norm to get your informed consent.
